Terrance realized that the only way to get Mac is to create an imaginary friend to beat up Bloo. Then, Bloo tries to rescue an Imaginary Friend, but it's really just a guy trapped in a cell phone costume. Once everyone is back at Foster's, Mr. Herriman apologizes to Mac for his misjudgment and wholeheartedly agrees about Terrence. Frankie informs Mac that she, Wilt, Eduardo and Coco have already decided to take care of dealing with Terrence. It reveals that Frankie, Wilt, Eduardo and Coco lock Terrence in the unicorn stables as punishment for his duplicity, much to Terrence's shock and horror.

When Mac does return for Bloo though, his brother Terence finds out and is unhappy. Now, anything that keeps her away from Bloo must be removed even if it's his best friend, Mac. They are foiled by the arrival of Mac and company, who manage to save Bloo and trick the monster into turning on its masters.

But to Mac and Bloo, it is a dark day when their good friends are taken away from them. Determined to save their friends, Mac and Bloo turn to some drastic measures.

McCracken and Mike Moon won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation in 2005 for their work in the episode. The show also received an Annie Award nomination for Best Character Design in an Animated Television Production. Anita Gates of The New York Times praised the episode and stated that the series would promise to be an "admirable tale of loyalty and adventure-based learning with a contagious sense of fun". The episode was written and directed by the show's creator Craig McCracken, with further story work by his then-fiancée Lauren Faust and screenwriters Craig Lewis and Amy Keating Rogers. Mac and Bloo are the first two characters to speak in this movie, making them the first two characters to speak in the whole series.
